What is LSVT BIG® Therapy?

– LSVT BIG®is an intensive, amplitude focused physical/occupational therapy for Parkinson’s disease and other populations with the goal to restore normal movement patterns in everyday activities.
– LSVT BIG®is a standardized treatment protocol that is customized to the unique goals of each individual. Treatment can be adapted or progressed to meet each patient’s needs across a range of disease severity and impairments.
– LSVT BIG®treatment always consists of:
o Large amplitude exercises for the whole body
o Personalized functional skills practice
o 16 sessions, 4 consecutive days a week for 4 weeks
o 60-minute one-on-one therapy sessions
o Daily home exercise practice
– Research has documented improved mobility following treatment including: o Faster walking with bigger steps
o Improved balance and decreased risk for falls
o Increased trunk rotation
o Improved activities of daily living
o Improved multi-tasking with walking
– It is essential that LSVT BIG®treatment is delivered by a physical and/or occupational therapist who is certified in this method.
