– A Baker’s cyst forms a fluid filled lump behind the knee and it can cause stiffness, discomfort and the feeling of tightness in the knee.
– It can cause pain and the pain can worsen with activity or when fully straightening or bending the knee.
– Symptoms
– Swelling behind the knee, sometimes in the leg as well.
– Knee pain
– Stiffness and inability to fully flex the knee
– Symptoms may be worse after you’ve been active or if you’ve been standing for a long time.
– Causes
– Inflammation of the knee joint, which can occur with various types of arthritis or a knee injury, such as a meniscus tear.
– These conditions can cause the joint to produce excess fluid. This can lead to the formation of a cyst.
– How can physical therapy help?
– Exercises that improve range of motion and strengthen the muscles around the knee may be beneficial.
