Do you catch yourself stumbling over your feet often? You may have an increase in balance deficits. Balance is something that is used in everyday life. This is true that if you do not practice a skill, you can lose the ability to do it how you once did. This is the same for balance. Balance is used in a multitude of ways including walking, picking something up off the floor, and even getting up from a chair. Incorporating balance exercises into your daily routine is a great way to challenge yourself and improve something that you use everyday. Static and dynamic balance are 2 different kinds of balance you can work on. Static balance is when you are standing and not moving while maintaining postural control. Dynamic balance is when the body is moving and able to maintain postural control while moving outside of your base of support. Both are important to have in your arsenal when moving through your environment.

There are a few different ways that you can incorporate balance training into your daily routine including classes or a set of exercises. Classes that you can take are yoga and Tai Chi. These classes can be at local recreational and fitness centers or these classes can be streamed from the comfort of your home. The flexibility with these classes can be beneficial for individuals with a busy schedule or wanting different low cost options. Another way to incorporate balance exercises is to complete drills that focus on challenging balance.

Balance Exercise

Everyone can benefit from balance exercises from athletes, to the general population, and even seniors. Balance is great for almost all movements a person can perform and is great for building muscle, creating more force through movements, preventing falls, and avoiding injuries. When training for balance it creates better stability that will allow you to do the things you want and need to do in life.
