What is the McKenzie Method?

● A widely used exercise method that was developed by physiotherapist Robin Anthony McKenzie in the 1950s – becoming popularized by 1985 ● It is used to diagnose and treat various musculoskeletal conditions
● Over time, the McKenzie exercises are synonymous with spinal extension exercises

Theory Behind McKenzie Method

● This method encourages postural correction with repeated exercise movements at end-range of motion

● It emphasizes centralization to treat and assess spinal pain

  • Pain that originates from the spine usually refers distally and with specific repetitive movements, the pain can start to migrate back up towards the spine
